US at a fork in the road – and on a knife-edge

Stephff’s cartoon sums up the US presidential election superbly.
The picture has an American eagle driving a car towards a fork in the road, with Clinton at one fork holding an arrow sign with the words “Ku Klux Klan”, pointing towards a brick wall. 
At the other fork, Trump’s arrow sign has the phrase “World War 3”, leading to a cliff. It seems very much not a matter of who is best to lead the country, but rather who is the least-worst candidate to lead the country!
From a population of 320 million people, are these really the two best candidates for the position of president, or simply the candidates with biggest pots of cash?
