Mr David Brown, have you considered that the humble hotel porter you praised so highly probably gets interrogated after leaving a room and dealing with foreigners?
That is the reality of Vietnamese communist rule, and I say that from personal experience.
You seem a little less than satisfied with Thailand. What are you doing here, may I ask?
