THE METROPOLITAN Museum of Art Store celebrates the month of love with a new Valentine’s Day collection of jewellery and watches that take their inspiration from classic artworks of different historical eras.
The elegant Red Heart Locket and Niello Heart pendant borrow their unique design from an engraved niello ornament that appears in a Renaissance book in the Museum’s collection and will delight anyone who loves vintage fashion.
Produced in cooperation with the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, the Ahava Love pendant is crafted in 14K gold and 24K gold overlay to mimic the Hebrew letters for the word “love”. The beautiful Russian Imperial Egg pendant watch is designed to resemble an original gold and enamel miniature Faberge egg from the collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. It’s part of the series of jewelled Easter eggs created for Tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II of Russia, which often memorialised important occasions in the reign of the Imperial Romanov family.
The Delander watch for women is adapted from an original bejewelled timepiece that belonged to the Empress Elizabeth of Russia while the men’s version is developed from British master clock maker Thomas Tompion’s 17-century regulator clock designed for the royal observatory in Greenwich.
