Re: “Big bombs explode in Pattani”, The Nation, yesterday.

I have seen “Merdeka” (“independent” or “free” in the Malay language) spray-painted on many road signs in Pattani, Yala and in Narathiwat. This will be a hard battle for Bangkok to win.

From The Nation, October 8, 2014: “Deputy PM asserts southern situation improving”.
Someone is lying!

“The government recently rejected a conditional offer for peace talks from one of the main insurgent groups, the Barisan Revolusi Nasional, which demanded international mediation or observation.” – Reuters
Why?
Clearly the problem is beyond internal mediation and outsiders are required. Start the peace talks and end this conflict.

There is possibly more chance of peace with the present regime than some of the previous “democratic” administrations.
Things were relatively quiet until Thaksin stirred the sh*t down there during his time in power, and it’s never recovered since then.
It doesn’t help having a ridiculous border as well; blame the British for that!

There are increasing foreign interests in the area, including Muslims from other countries (eg Pakistan, and sundry groups of Salafi-like fundamentalists). These need to be gotten rid of.  Interesting thing is that the “rebellion” had gone quiescent until Thailand and Malaysia agreed to a sort of detente and cooperation after mutually refusing the US an island military base in the South China Sea about 15 years ago ... then all hell broke loose among the backward Muslims of Yala and Pattani who could hardly afford a new pair of shoes.
So, yeah, they have help and professional guidance on the ground. Thais are not making any headway, policies are failing and they cannot guarantee the safety of their citizens. These Muslims need to learn that they cannot exist on their own and the Thais need to observe them without civilian interference, which will make it easier to hunt down foreigners and perpetrators like the dogs they are.  Won’t take long. Shut everything down...
