The flights begin departing for Medina this week from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and the airports in Narathiwat, Hat Yai and Krabi, carrying about 9,000 pilgrims in total.
THAI acting president Usanee Sangsingkeo says the national airline has arranged Hajj flights for 12 consecutive years, in response to a 2005 Cabinet directive to the Ministry of Transport.
Representative from THAI joined a subcommittee of the Hajj Committee of Thailand overseen by the Ministry of Interior. All arrangements are based on agreements between the governments of Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
Usanee says THAI continues to place emphasis on passenger comfort and convenience, safety standards and on-time departures.
The airline’s “Hal-Q” certified halal kitchen prepares the in-flight meals in strict adherence to Islamic dietary requirements.
THAI is this year operating nine flights from Suvarnabhumi, four from Narathiwat, 16 from Hat Yai and two from Krabi, all aircraft being 289-seat Airbus A330-300s.
Departures began yesterday (July 24) and continue through August 23. Return flights are scheduled from September 6 through October 2.
Pilgrims wishing to take advantage of the THAI service can contact the sales office in Hat Yai at (074) 230 445, extension 156-7, any weekday during business hours.
