The highlight of the event was a special presentation to unveil the concept of “Portraits of Time” as well as talk about the fascinating story behind the success of Rado.
The True Thinline Colours collection embodies a poetic mood, with four jewel-toned watches that blend seamlessly with an artistic vocabulary, fashioned from high-tech ceramic in one of four colours – inky blue, chocolate brown, forest green and lunar grey.
For the memory line, the revival of retro styles and mode of living can be seen in the increased interest in vinyl record and in the ubiquitous hipster. “Now that society regresses and moves us backwards in term of economic performance and human values, the need for memory becomes important, remembering recalling the glorious past of late sixties when everything was moving forward,” noted trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort.
Following this style statement, Memory comes back to life through vintage-inspired timekeepers, such as the unabashedly retro HyperChrome 1616, Rado’s modern interpretation of its vintage Cape Horn collection. It was first launched in the late 1960s, featuring with the hardened grade five titanium case fasten to the wrist with brown vintage leather strap, limited to 1616 pieces.
Another blast from the past is the New Hyperchrome Captain Cook, with oversized indexes, chunky arrow-shaped hands, and a rotating bezel in high-tech ceramic and stainless or carbon diffused steel combining giving the Captain Cook an unmistakably playful aesthetic.
To create a comfortable mood, Rado selected Two DiaMaster models to represent Comfort; DiaMaster Grande Seconde and New DiaMaster Power Reserve, the ideal pieces for men and women seeking a watch with a softly masculine look.
Design also enjoyed the spotlight, with diverse international designers employing unique material strategies and their personal vision to create special editions of Rado. Under the concept “Less Is More”, Rado teamed up with renowned industrial designer Konstantin Grcic to create the Ceramica family, starkly geometric timepiece with a contemporary new look for the current zeitgeist,
