The 2014 Asian Games silver medallist shot five birdies on the front nine before making her first bogey of the week on the 13th hole. She bounced back with a birdie on the 14th to settle for a two-day total of 8-under-par 136.
“I had a good round especially on the front nine where I made several birdies, three straight from the fourth to sixth holes.
“I hit a bad second shot to the root of the tree on the 13th and ended up with a bogey but I still had fun out there,” said Budsabakorn, who felt her impressive form this week was due to the “home” factor.
“It feels like home even though I’m from Chiang Rai [a few hours drive from Chiang Mai]. I feel more relaxed and confident here which is why I am playing so well,” said the 19-year-old, who is looking for her first title since winning the Taiwan LPGA event two years ago.
“It’s been a while since I won a tournament. I’d love to win here but my goal is to start the final round on Friday with a happy |feeling.
“Ploychompoo and I are quite familiar with each other as we have been playing together since we were young,” said Budsabakorn, who has not won a Thai LPGA tournament before.
Ploychompoo, 22, will also be eyeing her first Thai LPGA title after a second round 68 that put her at 6-under-par 138.
“I have to find the fairways and make good putts. It will be fun to play in the final group with a friend,” said Ploychompoo.
