Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) is taking messages of support for Thai musician Nene Royal to New York’s Times Square as the 16-year-old prepares for a crucial live appearance on America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 21.
The campaign brings together photographs and messages from Thai supporters, which are set to appear on a giant LED display at one of New York’s best-known landmarks. CP invited fans to submit photographs and messages of encouragement on social media from August 14–16, with 100 images selected for the Times Square display.
The initiative is intended to send support from Thailand to Nene as she advances in the US competition, while also showcasing a young Thai performer to an international audience.
Nene’s journey began far from the bright lights of an international television competition. The Phuket musician built experience through years of performing locally, including busking and live appearances, before taking her music to the AGT stage.
The 16-year-old singer and guitarist has officially secured a place in the Season 21 live shows after progressing through the Judges’ Callbacks round. She has been listed among the season’s top 44 acts competing in the quarter-finals.
Her callback performance featured a powerful rendition of Muse’s “Hysteria”, combining vocals with intricate guitar work that drew an enthusiastic response from the judges and audience.
AGT subsequently confirmed her progress with the announcement: “NENE ROYAL is heading to the live shows.” The news prompted an outpouring of support online from Thai fans and international viewers.
Nene first attracted widespread attention during her audition with “Zombie” by The Cranberries. Her performance, combining vocals and guitar, earned four “Yes” votes from judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and Mel B, taking her through the audition round.
The audition quickly gained international attention online, establishing the Phuket teenager as one of the season’s most prominent young music acts. Her subsequent performance of “Hysteria” reinforced that momentum as she competed for a place in the live rounds.
Her appeal has extended beyond her technical guitar ability. Her confidence, English-language communication skills, distinctive personality and increasingly assured stage presence have helped her adapt to the international competition, turning the nervousness seen in her early appearances into a more confident stage presence.
Nene is due to compete in the second live quarter-final on Tuesday, August 25, US time, which falls on Wednesday, August 26 in Thailand.
Season 21’s live shows feature 44 quarter-finalists divided into four groups of 11. The quarter-final performance and results shows run across August 18–19, August 25–26, September 1–2 and September 8–9.
The semi-finals are scheduled for September 15–16, followed by the season finale on September 22 and the announcement of the winner on September 23.
America’s Got Talent airs on NBC in the United States. In Thailand, Season 21 is available through TrueVisions NOW and True X-Zyte (Channel 340).
