The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued an advisory forecasting heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Thailand from August 18 to 21, particularly in the North and Northeast.
A monsoon trough will lie across the North and upper Northeast, while the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand will be relatively strong.
People in the affected areas are advised to take precautions against heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and rapid run-off from higher ground, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and in low-lying areas.
They should avoid travelling along routes prone to repeated flooding, especially in low-lying areas where temporary flooding may occur.
Wind and wave conditions in the upper Andaman Sea will be relatively strong from August 19 to 21, with waves 2–3 metres high and exceeding 3 metres in areas with thunderstorms.
In the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, waves will be about 2 metres high and more than 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms.
Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas affected by thunderstorms.
Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during this period.
For safety and to reduce potential impacts, people are urged to plan their daily activities and travel carefully during the period and to monitor advisories from the Thai Meteorological Department.
