Teenager Budsabakorn Sukapan overcame an early double bogey to claim her first title in two years in the BT1 million Singha-SAT Toyota Thai LPGA Championship in Chiang Mai yesterday.

The 19-year-old from Chiang Rai, who returned to Asia after failing to keep her LPGA card, fired three birdies in a closing 71 to finish on nine-under 207 at Mae Jo Golf Resort and Spa and claim her first title since winning in Taiwan in 2015.
“I feel so relieved and so proud of myself to have finally won my first title in a long time. I hadn’t been feeling so confident lately but this win definitely puts me right back on track,” said the silver medallist from the 2014 Asian games after her first Thai LPGA Tour win.
“Although I didn’t have many shots on, I still hit good up and down shots and found my way back. Even though I had that double bogey on the second hole, it didn’t shake my confidence, as there were plenty of holes out there. I just stuck to my game plan and remained focused.”
Budsabakorn who received a winner’s cheque of Bt142,500, dedicated her win to her mother Kannika who, despite having a knee problem, followed her daughter on every hole through the three rounds.

“I felt so thankful to my mother. She wanted to show her support even though she has a knee problem. I couldn’t let her down,” said the teenager, who will next play the first qualifying stage of the Japan Tour on August 28.
Apichaya Yubol, 15, from Saraburi, finished runner-up after carding a 70 for a five-under 211, a stroke in front of Dugsavi Soopimjit, a winner last week in Prachin Buri.
