Is ‘white trash’ now an acceptable insult?

Re: “The questions Trump supporters don’t want to answer”, Have Your Say, September 12.

I raised my eyebrows when Eric Bahrt referred to Caucasian Americans who voted for Trump as “white trash” – and I raised them higher when The Nation dared to print it.
But I guess it’s okay and even funny when people of the same skin colour call each other names. I recall comedies in which a black guy calling a black guy the “N” word, or a Mexican calling another Mexican “wetback”, made the audience laugh like hyenas.
Incidentally, Eric, what do you brand Chinese-Americans and Japanese-Americans who voted for Trump? And what about Thai-Americans?
Oh, and please stop using your magic phrase “a recent poll showed...” to shove your thoughts down our throats. Be specific if you want to convince us.
