Marathon men (and women)

Marathon men (and women)

ASIC once again underlines its commitment to running as a sport by organising the ASICS Relay on December 2 at the Rama VIII Bridge.

Each runner from the teams of four will start from the Rama VIII Bridge, which spans 300m across the Chao Phraya River. The circuit will be completed when the runner circles back to hand off the relay sash to the next team member, who then repeats the route. The sights of Wat Intharawihan, a 14th-century temple famous for its 32m-tall gold Buddha statue, and the Bang Khun Phrom Palace, a magnificent European-style structure that currently houses the Bank of Thailand Museum, will complement the ASICS Relay route.

This year’s ASICS Relay started in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 19 with 1,600 participants. The race will then continue in Kuala Lumpur on October 7 and Singapore November 4 before wrapping in Bangkok on December 2.

To add to the spirit of fun, awards will be given to teams (Male, Female, and Mixed) that clock the fastest timing in each full marathon and half marathon race categories. The overall champion teams will be announced in Bangkok, and these teams will be awarded with travel vouchers worth approximately Bt73,000.

The distinctive format of the ASICS Relay calls for a team of four to complete either the full 42km or half 21km marathon, with each member running a quarter of the total distance. The format eschews the individual endurance required in a typical marathon, instead drawing on the motivational strength of teamwork and building camaraderie as each team completes the marathon in unity.

Spurring teams on will be prizes worth Bt11,300 to Bt37,000.

“Introducing the ASICS Relay to more Southeast Asian countries affirms our historical association with running. It is heartening to see participants from all walks of life, regulars and first-timers, complete the marathon. We look forward to welcoming this year’s runners,” says Kenji Oh, Asia Marketing Director of ASICS Asia Pte. Ltd.

Early Bird registration ends tomorrow (September 17). It’s priced at   Bt2,200 for the 21km Open Category and Bt2,600 for the 42km Open Category The prices from Monday are Bt2,800 for the 21km Open Category and Bt3,200  for the 42km Open Category
