Tribal loyalty versus political loyalty

As a Jewish critic of Israel and an American critic of American policy I’ve been accused of being against “my people”.

But let me give two examples of what “my people” means to me.
Years ago I was at an animal rights march in Washington DC, where they had pro-animal rights speakers representing Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. All those speakers were “my people”.
The other example of “my people” are Jews who are involved in organisations fighting for Palestinian rights. But it will be a cold day in hell before I call the Jewish thugs currently running the Israeli government, or those thugs currently running  America, “my people”.
