All rights violations are wrong

Ghanga Darin (letters, August 30) quotes Human Rights Watch (HRW) when they condemn human rights violations in Muslim countries, but ignores the fact that HRW has also condemned human rights violations by Israel.

In a recent letter to another newspaper, Mr Darin referred to the atrocities committed by the Zionists in 1948 as "very limited terrorism". The Zionists blowing up the King David Hotel in 1948 and killing 91 people was "very limited terrorism"?

Was it also very limited terrorism when defence minister Ariel Sharon in 1982 allowed the Christian Lebanese militia to go into two Palestinian refugee camps and slaughter anywhere from one to three thousand men, women and children in a matter of hours? And while those atrocities were occurring, Israeli soldiers stood outside the camps to make sure no one escaped.

As a dues-paying member of Amnesty International, I deplore all human rights violations. But I get angry when people only pretend to care about human rights when it's convenient to do so but look the other way when countries they like commit atrocities.
