'I'm all right, Jack'

One can't help admiring Thaksin

Failing to solve Bangkok’s traffic problems in six months, he is now going flat out to put more cars on the streets in half that time. Having grasped the folly of a previous dead-end manoeuvre he is surely destined for a disastrous jam-packed triumph on this occasion.
And what of the poor? Formerly promising to rid Thailand of poverty within a year or two, he is now triggering a succession of policies most of which appear unlikely to benefit those most in need, whilst potentially bankrupting the entire nation in the process.
Of course, when it comes to himself, he knows exactly which one-way route to take. Mining is now this Montenegran’s new ego trip and passport to greater wealth and stealth (company slogan: Mine, mine, mine; digging ever deeper to stash the cash) so he’ll always be okay, irrespective of the effectiveness or collapse of his latest societal and political capers. Knockout!
