Art to help you float

A new exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre focuses on practical designs for flood relief

Saving Bangkok from flooding and helping with flood relief are urgent tasks for us all, and to help out, the environmental network “Design for Disasters” launches the exhibition “Let’s Panic” at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre today.

Among the highlights will be demonstration of how to create life jackets and boats from such materials as plastic bottles, inner tubes and rice sacks. There are also futuristic models of floating buildings and furniture.
Co-curated by Assistant Professor Sansern Milindasuta of Bangkok University and Silapathorn Award laureate Santi Lawrachawee, the show aims to raise awareness about the causes of the flood disaster.
And rather than panic, the artists want to demonstrate how to handle the situation calmly, through an exchange of information.
Fifteen artists and designers are taking part, exhibiting photography, graffiti, sculptures and installations. They include Kittikoon Worrasorratorn, Kanoknuch Sillapawisawakul, Krit Ngamsoom, Jitsing Somboon, Nattavut Luenthaisong, Teerawat Mulvilai, Super Machine Factory, Porntaweesak Rimsakul, Manon Taranurak and Studio Craftsmanship.
