Dear Khun Meechai Burapa, I appreciate very much your comments on Mrs Beasley’s letter to the editor, “If you’re dry, you’re not wet.” I agree 100 per cent with you, that if she prefers to live in a country where all the standards are excellent, why does she not go back home? Why does she (and her husband) live here? If you prefer to live in a country that is not your home country, you have to accept that things are different. I have lived here for five years, and just came back from my home country, the Netherlands, for a holiday with my Thai wife. The Netherlands might, according to international standards, be excellent, but trust me, I was happy boarding the plane for my flight back to Thailand after two months. No country in the world is excellent; there are problems everywhere, and I just cannot understand all these foreigners living here and complaining about living conditions that are not the same as in their home countries. For me, Thailand is the best country in the world to live. I have travelled and lived in many other countries, so I believe I can compare. The happy feeling I have here, I never had when I was on my last vacation in the Netherlands.
