Complaints lead to improvement

Re: "Why do you live here and complain so much?" Letters, November 6.

Meechai Burapa’s letter in which he tells the Beasleys to go back to where they came from was extremely arrogant. It’s obvious that expats feel there are advantages to living in Thailand. But that’s a two-way street, and Thailand also benefits from having us live here. Thus we have just as much right to voice our complaints about Thailand as Khun Meechai does.
When I was living in America, I resented it when people said: “America: love it or leave it.” I feel the same resentment when people say: “Thailand: love it or leave it.” Instead, why not say: “Thailand: love it but improve it”?
But how can you improve a country if you don’t point out where the improvements are needed?
