A vital editorial tool

The first tool an editor needs is a large bull***t stamp, and in times like these, it's absolutely essential.

For a big instance, the guest column by Pavin Chachavalpongpun (“Bangkok doesn’t deserve its protected status”, November 9) is one of the most useless, spiteful, class-baiting articles I’ve seen since the red days last year. The sentence in which he says that, during the earlier flooding upcountry, “Bangkok residents never expressed their concern, or sympathy, regarding the situation in those affected provinces” proves that he is an incompetent witness who did not see anything. And when he throws up his other complaints about the elites, he is obviously a hostile witness with a simplistic, stereotyped view of society. If he lumps the fake elitistas with the elite who bring good to the world, he cannot be trusted as an observer of society or of human nature. In short, his opinions do not bring anything to the discussion except dirty water – but you should still be able to see through him.
Having the right to say something does not mean that one has the right to expect someone else to print it. So get out your bull***t stamp and use it.
