The land still smiles

The flood, which has been dragging on for so many weeks, has severely affected the lives of many people in Thailand, especially the poor and underprivileged.

I have been following the news diligently every day. The reports talk about many who cannot help themselves, many who they say are stressed out, and the countless homeless. The media is always providing us with bad news.
But then I noticed that every time I see these people on TV, especially the poor, they are always smiling. You rarely see someone really angry. They seem to have accepted their fate and, for them, life goes on.
For foreigners, I think we should adopt this culture of staying calm and smiling, instead of complaining about the situation. Our constant bickering will not help; accept it and go on. I have been to many countries on holidays but I always feel relieved as soon as I board the plane back to Thailand.
Even through this tragic natural disaster, Thailand is still and always will be the “Land of Smiles”.
