Promoter Retox turns seven this week and they’re celebrating tonight with a wild birthday bash at LED on RCA that will have Ali Shirazinia aka Dubfire rocking the dancefloor.
Retox Sessions has a rep for bringing world class artists to Thailand and this time they’re very proud to present one-half of the four-time nominated and Grammy Award-winning duo Deep Dish, Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia to blow out the candles at the anniversary party. Having worked alongside partner Sharam for more than a decade, Dubfire has showed a new edgier sound since going solo. Over the past few years, he’s been pushing his SCI+TEC Label and touring with such world renowned artists as Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath. This time around, Dubfire is supported by local stars Sunju Hargun and Dan Buri.
Ali has something to say to the fans before he hits the deck tonight.
How's it going with SCI+TEC?
Things are going really well! The two most recent releases (SHDWPLAY’s Time Drip EP and Zoo Brazil’s “Slob”) were really well received. Our release schedule is full through October 2012 with releases from Carlo Lio, Francesco Bergomi, The Junkies, Schubert, Macromism, Snuff Crew and many more.
You have also remixed for many artists over the years. Which one are you most proud of and what projects do you have coming up in the near future?
Each remix is special for a variety of reasons – they are all like your children – but I’m obviously very proud of the Radio Slave mix which has managed to become something I am being required to play by the fans during every set! And that is a great feeling – the fact that this thing has resonated with so many people around the world.
Who's a dream collaborator – someone you would like to work with?
Bjork, not only because of her signature vocal style, but also because she is very tuned into technology and pushing it to its limits. She strikes me as someone who would really welcome endless experimentation with her voice so in that regard, it’s something that interests me very much.
What's your latest DJ technique/gear?
I still use Traktor software along with various hardware (X1 controllers, Maschine, etc) but I am having a blast with the Sample Deck function in Traktor, pairing it with a dedicated X1 controller.
You are touring a lot. Do you have time to work in the studio at all?
I usually dedicate winters to recording as my touring schedule is generally light. And it’s very difficult to work while on the road because your ears tend to be so fried from the gigs and all the listening to new music so that has never really worked for me.
How do you keep yourself inspired?
I am inspired by everything around me – specifically by the individuality and creativity of others.
What do you do to relax/unwind?
I enjoy cooking, catching up on films, spending time with friends and family...very boring stuff actually!
What do you look forward to in Bangkok this time?
Every time I’ve played in Bangkok has been a unique experience – I really enjoy the people, culture, food and general pace of
the city and am really excited to coming back to see how things have changed since my last visit.
