Grammy, which won the rights for the tournament co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland from June 8 to July 1, yesterday unveiled Channel 3 as its broadcasting partner set to televise the majority of matches. The European Championship is regarded second only to the Fifa World Cup and the Olympics in terms of popularity.
Khobkiart Sangwanich, Grammy Sport executive, said the broadcast would reach new levels for Thailand. New technologies including 3D player analysis would supplement coverage of the games, he said.
“We’ve been preparing for a long time to broadcast Euro 2012. We will ensure that it comes out perfectly for fans. In the recent Euro Under-21 tournament, we tested technologies that we intend to use at the Euros, including the 3D player analysis, and it turned out very well.”
Khobkiart said fans’ pleasure was the top priority and the company would do its utmost to ensure no interruptions such as ad breaks during games, adding that GMM appreciated the understanding from sponsors including ThaiBev and AP Honda.
“We want to make sure that anyone can watch the Euros and get a full taste of the action. So we said there should not be any commercials during the game in our discussions with the sponsors. Fortunately, they agreed with us as they wanted Thais to experience the full fun of the tournament.”
Another broadcasting partner, yet to be announced, will screen the final four games of the group stage simultaneously with Channel 3’s coverage.
