I share the conclusion of the editorial that the sooner Japan returns to its former glory, the better for the rest of the world.
There are valid reasons to be optimistic about it, seeing the extraordinary reconstruction capacity of the Japanese people, as well as many splendid examples of national and international solidarity during the unprecedented triple disasters of earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis which affected Japan in 2011, generating tremendous human suffering across the country.
These tragic events in Japan revalidated the vital necessity to develop a proactive solidarity at a global level, as natural disasters become a regular phenomenon on all continents.
It is only by giving tangibility to the duty of universal solidarity as an imperative prerequisite of globalisation that the world community of nations can successfully cope with the consequences of devastating catastrophes.
