Khun Vint [in his recent letter] didn't mention that the trial [of the Thai Rak Thai executives] was conducted at a time when the military junta was in power.
In addition, the Constitution Court that disbanded the TRT consisted of justices who were hand-picked by the junta, which was hostile to the TRT.
What’s more, the TRT’s offences occurred around March 2006 when Thailand had no laws to dissolve a political party. The TRT was disbanded by the coup’s Announcement No 27, proclaimed on 30 September 2006, meaning the court dissolved the TRT by enforcing the Announcement retroactively. Applying laws retroactively to punish someone is unethical and unjust.
Therefore, Khun Chaturon is right to condemn the coup for causing the injustice.
