But it’s a thrill when they make the selection based on love alone. Such was the case with Thaksaorn “Ap” Bhaksukcharoen, who married Songkran Thechanarong earlier this year. Not that he’s remotely poor – his family owns the Bonanza Khao Yai resort. Theirs is the kind of relationship that stirs envy among us lesser mortals who struggle to find happy marriages. Ap is such amazing beauty, and Songkran is bright, smart, a hunk and generous with displays of love, all qualities dear to the hearts of well-bred Thai ladies.
Since their wedding, Ap has practically vanished from TV screens, even though she was one of the most sought-after soap actresses. A hornbill in Khao Yai Park tells us the couple is quite busy at the moment. Ap has no time for TV because she’s helping her hubby develop the luxurious residential estate.
It’s their first joint business undertaking. Lovely, but we do hope Ap spares some time for show business again soon because we miss her. And surely she looks better on TV than on a construction site.
Less lucky
On the other side of the marital coin, a few celebrity couples are breaking up at the moment. First it was Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, but that wasn’t a surprise given that Cruise’s two previous marriages turned out to be impossible missions too.
We’re more surprised that actor-comedian Chetvudh “Buay” Vatcharakhun has split from his wife Chanokwanan, known as Took. A series of ups and downs culminated in their official divorce last Wednesday, two kids notwithstanding.
You wouldn’t call Buay particularly handsome, whereas Took is tall and gorgeous, a former model. We have no idea if that had anything to do with their break-up, but surely it would have been hard for them to enjoy an equal footing. They say opposites attract, but, sadly, it’s a formula that apparently didn’t work for these two.
