I have no problem at all with his being selected, although he is not senior-most, for it is job-related accomplishments and potential that should count; if seniority was important, it should be shown through measurable job-related accomplishments.
Deputy national police chief Pol General Eak Aungsananon says that Adul’s ability to deal with drugs effectively and his working experience, especially in the South, are what swayed the board. Given the importance of the post, we should see some proof of these claims: how many drug masterminds has Adul put behind bars, including the corrupt police and politicians behind them – or has he been effective only in catching mules? To what extent did casualties from terrorism go down in the South during Adul’s watch? Also, how did Adul do on other job-related metrics? For example, how many colonels and generals has he jailed for corruption? To what extent has local approval of the police risen in the provinces under his care?
Also, of course, his record deals only with the past. He should have presented the board with his policies if elected, using his achievements to convince them that his policies met our needs and were feasible. Adul should not ask His Majesty to endorse his appointment on faith alone, but should state his key performance indicators and how he’ll achieve them to His Majesty before seeking royal endorsement.
