Starting from 1988 when the event was first held, this is only the second time that the event will be organised at a venue outside of Europe, aside from Beijing in 2009. This end of season contest brings together stars from the various motorsport arenas including Formula 1, World Rally Championship, World Touring Car Championship, Le Mans et al, to compete against one another for “Champion of Champions” title. The event is split into two categories – Champion of Champions and the Nations Cup.
While in the former each driver competes for himself, in the Nations Cup, drivers are paired together to represent a country. Like every year, the ROC will take place on exclusively constructed tarmac, with two parallel lanes winding their way around the Rajamangala Stadium where participants will battle head-to-head in identical machinery.
Motorsport greats like Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Tom Kristensen, Martin Tomczyk, and Andy Priaulx were seen competing at the ROC last year. This year only Formula 1 driver Vettel has confirmed his participation in the event as yet.
