Sing-along with love

Popular airwave 104.5 Fat Radio is choosing to celebrate its twelfth anniversary in a unusual way – by staging a romantic comedy it’s dubbing “Rak 5-6 Sao Fat the Musical?”.

The show takes place at M Theatre over two weekends: August 31 to September 2 2 and September 7 to 9i

“The musical is based on a love story, which is told through a string of current pop songs,” says Pongnarin “Jong” Ulice, the radio station’s programming director. “It will be the first and probably the only musical where the audience can sing along with several characters. It’s a new phenomenon.

“Most of the performers are the singers and musicians. We’re interested in finding out whether they can act as well as singing or playing their musical instrument of choice. That’s why we’ve added a question mark to the title.”

The stars are Anusorn “Yong” Maneetet of Armchair, VJ Natthaweeranuch “Ja” Thongmee, Trai “Boy” Bhumiratna and Adune Ratchdapisit of Friday, Thawatpon “Mueay” Wongsiri of Scrubb, Weeranat “Jab” Thipayamonthol of The Richman Toy, Tanan “Boo” Boonyatanapiwat of Slur, Nithit “Boat” Varayanont of The Yers, Tul Witoonkiat of Apartment Khunpa, and Komsan Nanthajit.

The musical tells the story of Joy (Nathaweeranuch), a public relations officer who is having problems in her relationship with Lek (Yong Armchair), a musician totally lacking in ambition. Joy’s friend Sao (Komsan) compares Lek to the pair’s other friends, who include billionaire Mee (Boy Trai), SEA Write-winning poet (Mueay Scrubb), actor Pete Thonglor (Boat The Yers), Steve Jab (Jab The Richman Toy), and Boo Gate (Boo Slur). Joy realises she can find love again but how does she choose the right guy?

Filmmaker Komkrit Triwimol, the man behind “Noo-Hin The Movie” and “Puean Sanit” (Dear Dakanda), is the director and Chaowalek Srangtook is responsible for the screenplay.
