This is nothing more than another bit of Anglo-Saxon bickering against the European Union. One doesn’t have to repeat the speech of the EU ambassador, but the achievement of the EU in creating a peaceful union of 27 nations who were partly at each others’ throats only a few decades ago is unique in world politics and truly deserves the award.
Maybe the committee overlooked the ongoing membership of the UK, which ironically still hasn’t managed to leave the EU – in which case it may have deserved a prize for ongoing colonisation in different parts of the world, foremost Northern Ireland.
