Mexico’s famed cuisine comes under the spotlight this month with Le Meridien Bangkok’s Latest Recipe adding a fabulous selection of Latino dishes to its lunch buffet.
Executive chef Attapol Naito Thangthong is treating gourmets to dozens of popular main dishes that are alternated everyday. The dishes are prepared to original recipes and incorporate a range of ingredients imported from Mexico to ensure authentic flavour.
“Mexican dishes tend to be spicy and use a lot of parsley and tomato. We’re bringing in red and green salsas as well as taco flour,” he says.
Besides quesadilla and tacos, diners can enjoy seafood in a sizzling pan served with warm tortilla, home-made salsa, gordita- a small cake stuffed with cheese, meat and vegetables, grilled beef steak served with tacos and roasted whole Turkey with mole Poblano. In the hot dish corner of the buffet, guests will find escalope of pork fillet with sage and lemon jus, epic churro lamb, marinated chicken, dory cooked in Cilantro sauce, marinated salmon, duck breasts, lime, risotto Glogg sauce, sauteed vegetable, beef flank with green chilli and Anna potato.
Attapol recommends I sample the fajita, four kinds of flour tortilla made from carrot, spinach, corn and wheat and served sour cream, tomato salsa and avocado salsa, along with lobster salad, quesadillas filled with stewed pork and beef and crispy corn tacos.
Other countries are represented in the buffet too. Among the highlights are Italian pastas and pizzas, fresh sashimi, seafood, salads, Korean barbecue, Indian curry and Thai-style spicy salads. For desserts, there’s gelato with a vareity of toppings, churros, chocolate blueberry roll, pop up cake, chocoflan, Gugelhupf, baked peach tart, blueberry cake, panna cotta and cheese cake with whipped cream.
“We use fresh ingredients from local markets, along with imported river fish,” says Attapol. “We change themes every couple of months and include a range of dishes from a particular country.”
Healthy juices are also available as part of the buffet and include mango, lychee, passion fruit and strawberry.
The price is Bt699 for the food only and Visa card holders can enjoy lunch at the special price of Bt749 inclusive of soft drinks, ice tea, coffee or tea until May 31.
