Hen-pecked Ob still a rebel (sometimes)

Pongpat "Ob" Wachirabunchong, 52, the actor who also directs for TV and film, has no problem with everyone knowing he's whipped

In fact he’s happy to talk about what a submissive husband he is, with Hamburger magazine being the latest to hear how his wife is the “compass” in his life.
She is actress and TV producer Thanya “Daeng” Sopon, and Ob claims she’s “99 per cent” responsible for his success. “I’m not exaggerating! She’s like a compass and I follow her. Every time I make a move, I ask her if it’s okay. The thing is that I’m totally confident she’ll take me to the right decision.” Of course, he laughs, it’s a relief never having to make any decisions.
A day in the life of Ob: “She tells me from the time I wake up what I have to do. And if I want to do something, I ask her if I’m free to do it,” he says. If he’s got spare time, he’s allowed to visit a friend’s amulet shop or play a little football. Beyond those excursions, Ob says, he’s clueless without Daeng. “I have no discipline in any matters, especially in spending. Without her I’d spend millions a day!”
Somehow they still manage to have “quarrels”. “Ranting, complaining is normal for her,” he says. “If I drive the wrong way or work too slowly, she preaches, but I’ve become used to it. Her voice to me is like music, and without it I’d feel lonely.”
Ob admits to disobedience in one area. Daeng prefers a clean look and refused to marry him unless he cut his hair short. It took a few decades, but Ob eventually regained his shaggy rock-star look. “I never pay attention to grooming,” he smirks. “That’s why I’ve aged so much more than other actors.”
Any other standing orders from the boss? Yes, Daeng doesn’t want Ob involved in politics. That seems a bit harsh for the guy who touched so many hearts with his acceptance speech at the 2010 Nataraj Awards. He earned the prize for a convincing portrayal of a dad, and turned the theme to political bickering. “If you hate Father, just get out of Father’s House, because this land belongs to Father.”
Since Daeng might object, would he ever repeat such sentiments publicly? “I’d give the exact same speech,” Ob replied, “and I’d like to say it twice!”

Picture perfect
Preparing for their wedding on November 8, actors Boromwut “Mic” Hiranyatsathiti and Pornchita “Benz” Na Songkhla are watching their weight so their official photographer doesn’t need a wide-angle lens.
“Mic has lost a lot,” says Benz. “He goes to the boxing gym whenever he has time. He’s so proud when people mention his flat belly.” Unfortunately Benz has accumulated three extra kilos recently. “I don’t go boxing!”
Benz admits it was a huge relief when her often-cantankerous mother agreed to the marriage. And she’s amazed that Mum hasn’t meddled in her wedding plans. De-stressed, Benz is thinking about having a baby. “I was chicken at first – I thought it was difficult – but now I think I’m ready, and I’d prefer to have twins.”
