Swarovski brings out the 'you'

Thai socialites find great ideas in a new book and new lines of jewelry

SWAROVSKI CREATIVE director Nathalie Collin’s new book “Style Yourself with Jewellery” has Thai socialites trying her tips for standing out in a crowd. The idea is to cultivate your own unique look by bringing out the aspects of your personality – and to have fun with accessories.
Swarovski invited fashion guru Ekamol Attakamol to expand on the ideas in “Style Yourself”. Among her recommended tricks: “Wear several brooches artistically, lining them along one collar, from biggest to smallest, to add a touch of glam to solemnity.”
Ekamol also advises women to find their own style by borrowing from their favourite stars. Jennifer Lopez, for example, stands out with a sexy yet classic look. She often appears in gowns that show some skin, and usually there’s only a single accessory. Many Thai celebrities enjoy mixing and matching, such as pairing vintage togs with colourful accessories.
“I’m really into the Swarovski suggestions,” says Rocket Sound heiress Pooncharus Korkiattrakul. “I never thought there would be principles for jewellery and other accessories. I’ve always worn just what I thought was good, but hearing these tips, like matching earrings to your face shape, makes me want to try them.
“As for Swarovski’s new collection, I chose a Himalayan ring for its simplicity. Even though there’s only a single crystal in the middle, the edge is still elaborate and luxurious.”
Clothing boutique owner Atcha Charoenrasmikiat says the Swarovski advice has been fun to follow. “I have quite a square face that I think looks good with chandelier earrings. I also love the Indian jewellery by Shorouk. Swarovski is my favourite brand and the vintage designs and dazzling colour match my own dress style, so I’m in love with this particular collection.”
Red Bull heiress Thitikul Yuwittaya says the classic approach of wearing only a few, outstanding, pieces of jewellery “is more my style. Hearing useful tips like these boosts my confidence to style myself with jewellery that reinforces my dress style even more.
“As for this collection, I like the Himalayan style because of its cool colour tones and simple but glamorous design. It could add a touch of playfulness to my classic style.”
Suksinee Bhalakula, whose father is an adviser to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, says her round face is suited to elaborate stud earrings. “I prefer the vintage style, so I’m into the collection inspired by China, because I like the play of symbolic tones like white, black and gold.”
“I’m really impressed by this collection,” Natchaya Krairurk enthused. “I always thought Swarovski only had classic jewellery, but now it seems more versatile, inviting and good for everyday wear, particularly the Himalayan collection, which looks simple and classic but could be easily adapted to dressing up.”
