Thaksin has also repeatedly stated that the amnesty push is not for his benefit, he doesn’t think about getting his money back, and he has no problem staying overseas for another 10 years.
Let’s take these leaders, from Thaksin and Abhisit on down, at their word and let them put their money and freedom where their mouths are, by specifically exempting them by name from any amnesty bill. Let any who wish exemption to declare themselves at any district office or Thai consulate, and post their names on Parliament’s website, that we may praise them as believing in rule of law, and grant their wish.
We Thais are fond of giving lip service to rule of law, first overthrowing lawfully elected governments at will, then exempting coup-makers en masse, then fleeing overseas to escape court verdicts. Let us heed our beloved and sage king, who noted: “If the country does not follow the rule of law, it will not survive.”
