How cool is Japan?

Next week's Cool Japan Thailand fair will demonstrate the principle of omotenashi

Japan's trendy “sustainable fashion” brand Cross and furniture maker Idee, part of the Muji Group, will have their wares on display at the Cool Japan Thailand fair at Siam Discovery from January 9 to 14.
Cross and Idee will be joined by famous Japanese brands, some appearing here for the first time and others already well known in Thailand, such as the travel agency HIS, the |coffeeshop chain UCC |and Farm Design |bakeries.
Residents of Hokkaido and the town of Mie will also put on shows.
“We are excited to be bringing this wonderful festival, highlighting the custom of giving gifts to express what is in your heart,” says Masami Tajima, president of Franchise Advantage Inc, consulting firm with many popular service chains as clients.
“This is the spirit of omotenashi, an important part of our culture and part of the way we do business. Visitors to the fair will be able to experience this and gain insight into the modern Japanese lifestyle. They’ll get to know some popular brands better, as well as being introduced to new brands that hope to make an impact in Thailand in the future.”
A seminar is planned at the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology in Bangkok on January 14 that promises to create opportunities for businesses to enter the Thai market. Franchise Advantage will facilitate partnerships between Thai and Japanese companies, and Thai entrepreneurs can learn how implement omotenashi in their own dealings.
Omotenashi will be at the heart of the fair, with visitors participating in the Japanese custom of giving gifts that express what’s in the heart. Every Bt200 spent earns them tickets in both a daily lucky draw and the Grand Prize draw for a package tour sponsored by HIS. Siam Discovery members will receive double the tickets.
