What a crazy situation we have now, with the lawbreakers continuing to rule the country as “caretakers”. Surely this should be both wrong and illegal? In other countries, governments are forced out of office for much less reason than this. Normally the opposition then forms a minority coalition government until the next election.
In Thailand, a priority for reforms is to clarify when the game is over for a government and how to handle the ensuing transition period. Government sympathisers want to use rules and precedents from Western democracies that have evolved over a century and more, when Thailand is only on the first rung of the ladder to democracy. That it is climbing that ladder is thanks to Suthep and the demonstrators.
