Like Stephff, I am more than slightly miffed at not being invited to the US Embassy’s Fourth of July party. I’m an American. July 4 is my day. All American expats should have been invited. We pay the taxes that funded this bash.
I’m sure plenty of elite Americans were invited – the heads of big corporations, five-star hotels, chambers of commerce, NGOs and whatnot. But I’ll bet nobody was invited from the scumry: low-life riffraff like myself who are often found sleeping it off in the gutters of Soi Cowboy.
And why not? Are not all men created equal? And we of the scumry are the cannon fodder who fight America’s wars. America betrays its loftiest professed ideals by cruelly excluding us from its 4th-of-July hootenanny. It buries thousands of us at Normandy, recites pieties over our graves, and then never invites us to its parties.
Next year I want an invite. I expect to see Stephff there, too. I’ll shave for the occasion if he will. And I want the first dance with Kristie Kenney. What a babe!
