John Arnone complains, “We would love to understand Islam better, but it is difficult because there is no communication.”
Well, John, there’s plenty of communication, but it’s all one way, and it’s not the kind you and I want to hear. It’s called the Koran, it gives rich insights into normative Muslim attitudes, and it tells us everything we need to know about Islam. Consider the following excerpts from the Penguin translation by NJ Dawood:
“The only true faith in God’s sight is Islam.” (3:19.)
“He that chooses a religion other than Islam, it will not be accepted of him and in the world to come he will surely be among the losers.” (3:85.)
“God’s curse be upon the infidels.” (2:89.)
“When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them.” (9:5.)
“Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you.” 9:123.)
This is all very clear, so I don’t we think we have any right to complain about the Muslims’ failure to communicate. What is remarkable is the feebleness of our response. The secular world has no idea of how to deal with the excesses of the religious mindset. It had better start learning fast.
