Pornanong poised to strike in Malaysia

Pornanong Phatlum fired back-to-back 67s for a total eight-under-par 134 to trail South Korean leader Ryu So-yeon by three strokes at the midway stage of the US$2-million Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club yesterday.

Sinking seven birdies against three bogeys, Pornanong moved into a three-way tie for sixth spot along with Azahara Munoz of Spain, and China’s Feng Shanshan.
“I continued to play well today, although I drove into bunkers on two holes. My approach shots were still okay as well and I putted better than on Thursday. This course is easy to shoot low scores on. It just depends on who comes up with the better putts. The door is open for several players now,” said Pornanong.
Ryu carded a 65 for a total 11-under-par 131, two shots ahead of a trio featuring Japan’s Ayako Uehara, Jodi Ewart Shadoff of England and 17-year-old phenomenon Lydia Ko of New Zealand, each on 133. Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn shot 70 for a total 139, which placed her joint 28th. Young sister Ariya was at tied 35th on 140.
