Maybe he has learned from “the American Democracy” which closes its eyes when dealing with “their” dictatorships in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia? (while dropping democracy-infusing bombs on “other” dictatorships).
So, how to create democracy? From “elected” corrupt businessmen gone politicians to boost their businesses? Or from vote-buying politicians? And how much democracy do you get from a prime minister who doesn’t want to pay tax? Is that the Pheu Thai’s path to democracy?
Elsewhere democracy seems to come from honest and idealistic people who long for a fair and honest society. People who aim for democracy in a not self-enriching or self-empowering way, shown in the history of the now best functioning democracies in the world. Probably the same kind of idealistic people now in power in Thailand and who try to achieve a real Thai democracy?
Democracy needs the right sort of people in its early stage to be established. Prayut is probably the best and most democratic minded man Thailand ever had. He saved the country from a civil war and now serves as an honest and idealistic civilian: exactly what Thailand needs at its current stage on its way to democracy.
To understand things right you may be have to measure Thailand as a pre-democratic country with some previous perverted attempts to develop democracy. Pheu Thai, the red-shirts and the since 22 May slumbering, but now awakening Thaksin-apologists, are wrong. Democracy is always created from one or an other form of dictatorship. Because what else is present before a democracy? Democracy does not come from democracy but from honest people of a nation!
