Be patient with democracy, it's a work in progress

Re: "Thai democracy no beauty, but it has its merits", Letter, Jan 1.

My new year couldn’t have been better. The first letter to the editor I read, which came from Khun Kemadist Chiaracharuwat, turned out to be an exemplary one. Khun Kemadist backed up his premise with solid examples, citing democratic development in the US.
Most writers vaguely mention something and never back it up. My favourite one is “a great massive number of Thais support coups”, and the evidence was a picture of a woman handing a soldier a wilting stem rose.
Yes, Khun Kemadist convinced me that democracy is “work in progress”. We should be patient with it and not “flip the chessboard” every time we see something we don’t like. That is a spoiled brat’s behaviour.
Name a developed country, no, make it a semi-developed country that had gone through 18 constitutions and 12 military coups (not counting the bloopers, mind you), and I’ll show you a flying green unicorn.
