A naïve view of the junta's motivation

Re: "The junta is saviour, not gangster", Letter, Jan 27.

David Brown, like many expatriates, naïvely sees Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as a guardian angel who toppled the elected government in order to stop anti-government protesters from being murdered.
If you want to scatter a flock of sheep, you strike the shepherds, don’t you? If Yingluck’s government wanted to disperse the protesters, why didn’t it attack the mob leaders? Why the insignificant bystanders instead? Maybe the shepherds themselves had reason to attack their own flock.
David is a smart man – he has taught at universities here. I can’t believe he has fallen for this old ruse.
