Felicitations to the PM on the occasion of his 61st birthday. In an earlier era I sought to glorify a former prime minister by composing fragments of an epic poem entitled “The Thaksiad”.
Portions of it were even published in The Nation Weekend. Later I started a new one called “The Abhisiad”, which was sadly truncated by the ruthless march of events.
Being a shameless power slut, I am now composing a brand new epic, “The Prayutiad”, to immortalise the feats of our new PM. The following birthday ode is a modest beginning:
Ode to Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on the occasion of his 61st birthday;
Sing, Muse, the hero;
Who rose from Thailand’s tiger lair to seize the civil power;
The squabbling pols he summoned to august conference and promptly sacked the lot;
Martial law he then imposed to bring stern order to a land that had been torn by chaos;
And soothed the public’s keen distress by mandating sweet happiness ...
And that’s just the beginning. It gets better later on (It would have to).
Poetically,
