Your editorial a few days ago was convincing in taking the side of a volunteer nurse who witnessed the 2010 Pathum Wan Temple shooting and was recently detained.
Some called her “disappearance” into detention an abduction. But how should a suspect be apprehended under martial law so that all the evidence is secured and further information-gathering is not jeopardised, but their legal interests and well-being are protected? And what if those two aims contradict each other? Is that what happened in this case?
What the editorial failed to consider was the volunteer nurse’s credibility as a neutral witness. Published photographs of her making the anti-coup three-fingered salute make her look more like an activist than a credible witness.
