FEBRUARY AND Valentine’s Day are long gone, but well into March there were at least two happy couples last week in Bangkok, aside from the big-screen Cinderella and her Prince Charming.
One is a pair of newlyweds who came straight from exchanging their vows to watch Jason Mraz in concert last weekend. The Soopsip team was there at Impact Arena with managers from the Grand Hyatt Erawan when we spotted the couple in the middle row. They weren’t hard to miss, since the bride was still in her gown and long white veil.
When it came time for Mraz’ most popular song “I’m Yours”, the bride and groom had already moved to the VIP seats, and they gazed into each other’s eyes while the fedora-clad musician crooned.
Everyone thought the whole thing felt staged, and one of the Grand Hyatt Erawan crew asked the happy couple about it afterward. They both said heavens no, they had absolutely no idea they were going to be featured in the concert and they didn’t even know someone was filming them. The groom even gave his identity, and the lucky man is Lookpetch Nielsen. If you want to see the moment of spontaneity, check out Youtu.be/hPkMN-5MET8.
In another romantic story, a 28-year-old man named Thammarat (last name withheld) got hitched last week with the love of his life, Praweenar Thadaphrom. He’s done something rather unorthodox in Thai society and has taken his bride’s family name. So he is now Thammarat Thadaphrom.
He tells Soopsip that his new father-in-law said he just had one daughter and he wanted his family name to continue. Thammarat was raised by his single mother, so he didn’t mind letting go of his old name. “It’s a beautiful family name,” he says.
Meanwhile, a relationship was ended in what supposed to be the month of love in February. Khao Sod reports that Police Captian Songphan “Tom” Kuldiloke confirmed the rumour that he and his actress wife Orjira “Pang” Lamwilai have split. They were married in October 2012. The newspaper talked to Pang’s ex after his father Police Maj-General Chat confirmed to reporters that his son and Pang were no longer together.
“It’s hard to live together as my son is a policeman and he is a son of policeman while his [former] wife is a star. Their lifestyles were so different and they had little time to meet,” Chat was quoted as saying.
Tom told the newspaper that he and Pang separated in January this year. “There was no ‘third hand’, including my parents in this matter,” Tom said. “It is just that when we were together, we realised we had little in common and there was no happiness. From now on, we will just be friends.” Their divorce was finalised sometime around Valentine’s Day. How romantic.
