AMERICAN VOCAL band Backstreet Boys will be back in Asia next month and the good news for Thai fans is that they’ll be wrapping up this section of their “In A World Like This” 20th-anniversary tour with a show in Bangkok.
The group, which shot to fame with their debut international album in 1996, features Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter and AJ McLean and has a massive following in the region, their music playing the soundtrack to the formative years of many of today’s young professionals.
Organisers BeUs and the concert’s main sponsors, Toyota Corolla Altis, recently hosted a press conference at Siam Center to discuss the upcoming concert, which takes place at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani on May 6.
BeUs’ president and chief executive Chakraphan Suwannik kicked off the event by talking about organising the show before handing over to local outfit Groove Tomatix who performed the covers of Backstreet Boys’ hits “Shape of My Heart” and “As Long As You Love Me”. Super Star College of Asia was next up on stage with “I Want It That Way.”
Among the audience was Virithipa “Woonsen” Pakdeeprasong, a fan of Backstreet Boys since the age of 15 and who knows all their song by heart. Pailin Rattanasangsatian – “Hwa Hwa” of the China Dolls – was also there and told XP that the boy band’s fast-paced tracks had inspired her to dance. Also having a good time at the
press conference Tan Lipta and Nonthawan “Maeya” Thongleng, Miss Thailand World 2014.
“Backstreet Boys are the blueprint of the boy band. All five members are capable of being both lead and back-up vocals. Thai fans really enjoy their hits,” commented local music guru Roj “Muek” Kwantham.
The song list for the upcoming show is expected to include several of the band’s most famous hits as well as a variety of new tracks including “Permanent Stain”, “Show ‘Em (What You’re Made Of)”, “Breathe”, “Madeleine”, “Love Somebody” and “In a World Like This.”
