Switch off political TV channels for good

Re: "Fah Won Mai TV flays NBTC", Politics, May 3

I don’t see any practical usefulness in our country having political TV stations.

First of all, these TV stations keep attacking people who have different political ideas than theirs. They do nothing else that is useful for society as a whole.
Second, they teach democracy the wrong way: they preach it, but then do the opposite of what they preach.
Third, unlike normal TV channels, these stations cannot afford rely on advertising to cover expenses. They operate mostly on donations from supporters, big and small, who share their political beliefs.
Even when they have products to sell (often their own), the only buyers are consumers on their own political side.
To sum up, no democracy in the world has political TV stations like we see in Thailand. And it would be foolish to think that, by watching these stations throwing expletives at one another, democracy in our country can thrive or prosper.
