The annual "FHM Girls Next Door" evolves from beauty contest to three blow-out parties
AFTER MORE THAN a dozen years of setting beautiful babes against each other, FHM Girls Next Door is opening a new chapter in its life with the launch of a campaign dubbed “The Trilogy Party”.
The first episode, called “20 Phenomenon EP1”, was held at Muse on Thonglor Soi 10 at the end of last month.
“We wanted to do something different”, explains Jakaphatchra Buranabutr, the magazine’s editor.
“Our ‘Girls Next Door’ activity has traditionally been held for one night only and the winner announced at the end of the evening. This year, we are turning the event into a blend of party and contest and have called it ‘The Trilogy Party’.”
Further episodes of the party will be organised at DND (Do Not Disturb) in Ekkamai Soi 5/1 on the theme “The Fantastic 10” on June 18 with the grand finale taking place at Thunder Dome, Muang Thong Thani on August 21.
“Many of our readers including Singaporeans want to take part in this activity. In the past, we’ve kept fan participation down to 8 to 10 per cent but now it will be much higher. The parties will feature concerts by popular artists so we will also be selling tickets.”
“FHM Girls Next Door” was originally inspired by Britain’s “High Street Honey”. Laos, Indonesia and the Philippines have stuck to the format and name though Singapore has changed it to “FHM Model”.
“We have many more girls applying to take part in the contest. Part of that I think is because the magazine has evolved and it is now also read by women. FHM isn’t a raunchy magazine, although it does highlight sexy girls,” says Jakaphatchra.
The night at Muse opened with a show by DJ April, winner of the Pioneer Pro Lady DJ Championship 2012, and a fashion show by the 20 sexy girls. DJ Roxy June, who won the Pioneer prize in 2010, was next up and won plenty of praise for her show.
Popular Thai outfits Mild and Thaitanium each played a set and the evening ended with another fashion show by FHM Girls Next Door 2015.
