Possible uses for politicians as Thailand reforms

Re: "Old charters can be used, advises Prayut", Politics, September 15.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha says he wants no politicians involved in drafting the new constitution. He is in the chair now because of corruption in government. The other long-standing problem is the justice system – the length of time it takes for a case to come to trial, the number of appeals allowed and the number of different courts. Lawyers need to sort this out.
The Pheu Thai Party has a myriad of lawyers, each with a different idea on how to slow down the reform procedure or stop it altogether. Assuming they are qualified lawyers, they must be bright enough to suggest different ways of applying the law to speed things up.
As for curtailing corruption, who better knows the ways and means than senior politicians? There is already one poacher-turned-gamekeeper making an effort. The process needs a few more. As for the journalist and his right to be a pain in the backside, it would be better to make constructive suggestions for releasing the country from “military rule” and get to a better state of affairs than has been the case for the last 83 years.
