Age no barrier for awesome Prayad

Veteran Prayad Marksaeng defended his title after shooting a 68 in the final round of the Bt5 million Singha Masters that propelled him to a threestroke victory at the Santiburi Country Club in Chiang Rai yesterday.

Prayad, who started the day as a coleader with Jakraphan Premsirigorn, hit four birdies against a lone bogey on the 15th hole to sign off with a total 15underpar 273.

The 50yearold has won a record sixth times at the par 72, 7,112yard layout.

Yesterday’s win marked his 16th title on the All Thailand Tour. He won the champion’s cheque of Bt750,000, and finished the 2015 season as the money leader on the All Thailand Tour with Bt2,190,216.

Despite being the oldest in the field, Prayad proved once again that age does not matter. He putted accu¬rately and was prudent in his shot selection.

“I think the reason I still play well at this age is because I take a good care of my health. I go to bed early and abstain from cigarettes and alcohol,” said Prayad.

Jakraphan finished with a bogey that meant he shared second place with Thanyakorn Krongpha on 12 under. He and Thanyakorn, who had a final round 67, each collected Bt325,500.

On the women’s side, Porani Chutichai carded a finishing 70 to win the title with a fourunderpar 284 total. She won Bt70,000 while amateur Manuschaya Zeemakorn came second at two over followed by Renu Suksukont at six over.
