That was a very good article on Sunday by Khun Preechachan. Our police force never fails to raise eyebrows.
Bridge is the world’s most popular card game, with more than twice as many regular players than rummy and poker have. Most of the time it is played without money changing hands. In many countries, including Indonesia and Singapore, it’s part of the school curriculum. Schools see it as a much better alternative to allowing children to waste their time playing computer games. For some of us, it is more than a hobby.
Omar Sharif, known for his portrayal of Dr Zhivago in the award-winning film of the same name, once said, “Acting is my profession, women are my hobby, but bridge is my passion.”
On the home front, bridge clubs are very active thanks to people like Khunying Chodchoy and Jeremy Watson of Pattaya, plus many others. The RBSC hosts an annual friendly with the armed forces. The Navy is very well represented. In fact we have an inside joke that no one has every risen to the rank of admiral without being a good bridge player. The other armed forces send at least two teams. However, our police force is rarely represented. By the way, at these illegal gatherings, no player ever has 120 cards. The most they can have in their hands is 13. So that’s another law they didn’t break.
